Immigrants. The GOP's Pinata.
contributed by John  Cobarruvias 08/03/2006
Make no mistake about why the Republican Party is raising the immigration issue after being silent for 6 years: They have absolutely nothing else to campaign on and are afraid of losing control of Congress in November.

Bashing the piñata of immigration for a shower of votes is an easy distraction from the failures of the Republican Party, and will unite and rally the worst of their base. Unfortunately for the GOP, this pinata intends to fight back, and fight back hard.

The Republican Party has lost the trust of the voters across the country with their continued failures at home an...read more

Good news! Special Session Fails!
contributed by John Cobarruvias 07/22/2005
Failed Special Session is good news!

Governor Perry and the Republican controlled House and Senate once again failed to reform public school financing, currently titled "Robin Hood". This failure is good for the citizens of Texas considering the Governor's horrible record for reform in the area of homeowners insurance, tort reform, and the medical malpractice. With his clear record of reform failure, parents and educators should not trust Governor Perry with reforming our childrens education and the adequate funding of Texas public schools.

Before Perry's Insurance reform in 2003, Texas...read more

Tom DeLay: Democrats have no Class?
contributed by John  Cobarruvias 05/19/2005
When I read Tom DeLay’s comment “Democrats have no class” at his going away party in DC, I immediately thought he was referring to my quote about DeLay in a local paper the day before: “What a rotten bastard”. http://galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=a197ebc2dfc55cf2 My comment was not intended for print (so I guess I shouldn’t have said it) and may have been inappropriate. Nevertheless I said it and I am sure DeLay was concerned about my quote as much as he is concerned about the future of the EPA.

I am also confident his hypocritical comment about “class” was not directed towards me...read more

BUSH’S BUDGET DISASTER

BUSH’S BUDGET DISASTER

Bush’s 2006 Budget Cuts Programs for Texas Families
While Exploding the Deficit

Bush’s 2006 budget eliminates or cuts funding to Texas for homeland security, education, health care, and business development. At the same time, Bush’s budget does nothing to reduce the record $412 billion deficit. In fact, the Enron-style accounting in Bush’s budget plan makes the long-term deficit worse because Bush fails to include $2 trillion in costs for his plan to privatize Social Security and leaves out billions for spending in Iraq.

BUSH’S BUDGET IS A DISASTER FOR TEXAS
